Echoes from the Holler

This book contains the fifth year of published articles on collected memories, facts, and folkways of farm and small town life in the first half of the 1900’s. The author continues to record stories of rural life, past and present, believing they are an important part of our heritage and legacy. She hopes to preserve a record of our history and country lifestyles for the years to come, when the old ways will be lost in the rising seas of technology. Stories from the Holler represent a simpler time and place, where happy times were shared and survival in bad times often depended upon good neighbors.

Souvenirs III by L. Joyce Mundy

Details

This is the author's third book, recording the lifestyles and values of the past from her perspective, in an effort to preserve those memories. Older folks have had their own memories jogged by her stories. Although she writes with sentiment and affection, she is careful to include the hard times. She wants younger folks to know how their ancestors lived, and what they cared about.

Young Mary of Nazareth by Helen Basham

Details

Have you ever wondered what happened to Mary of Nazareth during the time surrounding the conception and birth of Jesus? What was the reaction of her family? Who knew? How did Mary's engagement occur? Was Joseph, as historians concur, an older man? Where was Mary when the angel appeared, telling her of the coming Messiah? How did she get to Elisabeth's home? Who took her? How did Joseph and Mary get to Bethlehem? After extensive research, the author has taken the freedom of conjecture to draw these events together into story form.

History of Martin County, Indiana by Harry Q. Holt

Details

A reprint of the original book copyright 1966 and reprinted in 2006 by the Martin County Historical Society. The first history of the county (Volume I) was originally published in 1953, and contained primarily archival and other elusive information. Many historical facts had to be omitted from the first volume because of inadequate funds. This unpublished material has been supplemented by additional information and is in Volume II. A valuable and interesting section of this volume is the space devoted to sketches of representative citizens within and without the county. Names and dates have been interspersed with interesting facts of achievements and events. The volume contains several sketches which involve family relationships tracing back to sterling forebears who settled in the area. A Partial Autobiography of the Author is included as well with the purpose of presenting a factual and realistic picture of how some poorer people lived seventy years ago.
